Brent Comber works from his Vancouver, British Columbia-based studio creating sculpted objects, functional pieces and design environments. With an international reputation for his aesthetic interpretation of the Pacific Northwest and its natural materials, Brent specializes in designing modern urban forms from ancient sources. With Brent's Oak and Sitka Spruce "Faceted Bowls" collection, every facet exposes a different expression of the grain, transforming the bowl into a composition of shifting patters and textures. Each piece is carved from locally sourced wood and shaped through a series of carefully cut facets that catch and reflect light across the surface. The interior is finished with Osmo, a plant-based hardwax oil that is certified food safe and safe for children's toys, offering lasting protection while enhancing the wood's natural character. Similarly, with Brent's Western Red Cedar "Legacy Vessels" collection, it draws inspiration from baskets' historical function as both object and story. Woven by hand from materials gathered from the land, each vessel reflected the knowledge of its maker, the resources of its region, and the traditions passed from one generation to the next. Brent reinterprets the language of weaving through carving and form. Laminated cedar is shaped and sculpted to create the appearance of interwoven fibres, while hand-carved surfaces reveal layers of texture that echo the rhythm and movement of traditional basketry.
