Libby Weir is a professional artist and instructor with a career spanning over 35 years nationally and internationally. Libby’s abstract landscape paintings, primarily large acrylics on canvas, have been described as metaphors of human interaction with the natural environment. Landscape and the effects of nature are powerful influences in her paintings. Her work is collected privately and corporately and is held in numerous collections including the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the University of Alberta and the National Museum of Botswana. Born and raised in Jasper, Alberta, Libby earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Visual Arts in painting from the University of Alberta. A self-described nomadic person, Libby has lived in many disparate locations throughout Canada, Eastern Africa, Italy and Belize and now resides with her husband in Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. She has held solo and group shows throughout Canada, in addition to group shows in Brooklyn, New York and Botswana, Africa.
