Lucy Schappy was born in the Canadian prairies and grew up loving sun and open sky. As a child, making art was her favourite thing to do. She attended the University of Alberta and studied to become a dentist, hoping that one day it would allow her to follow her dream of being an artist. Working as a dentist on Vancouver Island, she found her true home. Surrounded by the island’s wild spaces, Schappy discovered a vibrant arts community where her love of art was able to flourish. In 2000, Schappy left her dental career to follow her passion in painting. Since then, she has worked full-time at finding and refining her voice in art. Always striving to make work that is unconventional and original, Schappy loves the challenge of learning new techniques and working in various genres. Ultimately, her greatest interest is to develop her abstract work, to say something that has not yet been said with paint. Studying with other artists at a university level, as well as in many private workshops and studios, Schappy has had many teachers and influences that have informed her development. Experimentation and exploration in the studio have brought her to where she is now, an award-winning artist with a unique, strong personal voice and style. Bold, colourful and exuberant work is her offering to the world.
