Working with acrylics on canvas and paper, Rebecca Santry aims to create pieces that express the majestic beauty and captivating landscape of the Pacific Northwest. Immersing herself in daily rituals of being in nature, she draws from the movement and layers within her surroundings capturing the essence of what she experiences in an abstract form. Her move to the Pacific Northwest from the UK opened her eyes to a change in lifestyle, a new environment and new-found inspiration drawn from the impressive physical surroundings and formations. The area of Squamish and beyond offered her a thoughtful and active community that share their mutual love of the region and its natural offerings. This is the place she very quickly made her family home and the main inspiration for her artwork. During Rebecca's earlier years, studying art at Loughborough University, composition was always a keen interest and strength in her visual communication, and she found a great sense of fulfillment in a hands-on approach. Designing new layouts in her sketchbook, shifting and placing various layers across a blank canvas and combining them with elements inspired by nature. Rebecca uses her art as a way of expressing herself and an outlet where she has found solace through the interpretation of nature. Art has become her therapy, a place to escape, play and challenge herself. She wants to create artwork that reflects her passion for all of this and, in turn, evoke these same feelings in the viewer.
