Sarah Platenius’ visual art has been featured in Camas Magazine and The Hopper, and exhibited at Federation Gallery, Sooke Fine Arts, Old School House Gallery, and Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art. Whether written or visual, Platenius’ work is inspired by observation and investigation of inner and outer landscapes. By interpreting the weather patterns of heart, politics, spirit and landforms, the work seeks to illustrate parallels between what we feel inside—our emotional, psychological geography—and what we observe in the natural world. By recognizing and articulating these parallels, Platenius aims to create calm out of chaos, in some cases by merely accepting chaos as cyclical. Whether through meticulous field notes, or writing a tribute to a PLACE, Platenius’ work engages wildness as a way to make sense of complexity and paradox in the human experience. American-Canadian, Platenius lives and works in Tofino, British Columbia.
